CAM announced at BFI London - ain't no thang!
We have another film premiering this September! Henry Jacobson directs Seann William Scott in this bloody homage to De Palma. From the Fantastic Fest announcement:
Evan (Seann William Scott) values family above all else, and anyone who gets between him, his wife, and newborn son learns that the hard way. But when it comes to violent tendencies, it seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Divide/Conquer produced the second episode of this upcoming anthology series for our friends at Blumhouse Television. 12 feature length films over 12 months! Directed by Patrick Lussier (a wonderful, talented human being) and produced by our very own Derek Bishé (talented, but a complete and total monster), “Flesh & Blood”, will premiere on November 2, 2018.
The section only features one movie directed by a woman, documentarian Emma Tammi’s narrative debut “The Wind,” and Kuplowsky acknowledged the shortcoming. “Am I happy with the statistic? No. I want to do more and I want to do better with more films directed by women and people of color,” he said. “It starts with them being represented in film festivals to signal to the industry. Gatekeepers at the festival want to see more films with these voices.”
He said he had been tracking the number of movies directed by women and people of color under consideration for this year’s lineup and planned to discuss the challenge at a genre-focused panel at this year’s festival. Nevertheless, he singled out Tammi’s “The Wind” as a movie likely to generate sales interest during the festival. “It’s a very American folklore horror film exploring the Frontier era,” he said. “It has the requisite scares an audience is looking for while also delivering a good drama.”
Just Announced! Our new feature, THRILLER, World Premieres at the 2018 LA Film Festival in the Nightfall section.
Just announced - come see CAM in Austin, TX this September at Fantastic Fest!
The film, which premiered at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, stars Madeline Brewer (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Patch Darragh (“The First Purge”), Melora Walters (“Venom”), and Devin Druid (“13 Reasons Why”).
The horror movie is a technology-driven psychological thriller set in the world of webcam porn. It follows Alice (Brewer), an ambitious camgirl, who wakes up one day to discover she’s been replaced on her show with an exact replica of herself. As this copy begins to push the boundaries of Alice’s internet identity, the control that Alice has over her life, and the men in it, vanishes. While she struggles to regain what she’s lost, she slowly finds herself drawn back to her show and to the mysterious person who has taken her place.
Congrats to Daniel Goldhaber and Isa Mazzei for winning BEST FIRST FEATURE and BEST SCREENPLAY at the 2018 Fantasia Film Festival!
JURY STATEMENT ON BEST SCREENPLAY, ISA MAZZEI'S CAM
“Isa Mazzei crafts a doppelgänger nightmare around the growing concern of digital identity, presenting a skewed (or is it?) view of the complex, dangerous, and largely unexplored world of webcam girls.”
BEST FIRST FEATURE: CAM (d. Daniel Goldhaber)
The New Flesh Jury calls Cam, “an ambitious, empowered project devoid of moral policing with respect to sex work, smartly told through visually vibrant storytelling. Cam captures the complexities and contradictions of curated identities on- and offline. This talented team embodies a collaborative spirit of next generation of genre filmmakers.”

THE RIVETING WORLD PREMIERE OF CAM WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY
Key among this year’s most exciting discoveries is Isa Mazzei and Danny Goldhaber’s CAM (World Premiere), a surrealistic thriller set in the world of webcam erotica in which an ambitious young camgirl (“The Handmaid Tale”’s Madeline Brewer) discovers that she’s inexplicably been replaced on her site with an exact replica of herself – a replica that knows personal things only she could know, and is considerably less guarded about privacy. The control that she has over her life, and the people in it, begins to break away. CAM is both an extraordinary genre vision and a milestone – the rare film about sex work written by a former sex worker. CAM brilliantly captures the anxieties and identity struggles of this unfairly judged field of work, with an approach that borders on the Lynchian. Produced by Blumhouse Pictures, Gunpowder & Sky, and Divide/Conquer, CAM also stars Patch Darragh, Melora Walters, Devin Druid, and Samantha Robinson.
